Beschreibung

A day full of art, nature, and mouth-watering flavours awaits you on this full-day tour of northern Lanzarote. Lazlo, one of our local expert guides, says, “This tour gives you a snapshot of Lanzarote through the eyes of the island's legendary artist, sculptor, and eco-warrior, César Manrique. He worked with local authorities to protect the island's natural beauty by introducing laws to keep buildings low—no taller than palm trees and always in the classic Canarian style.”

Your first stop is the César Manrique Foundation, which was also his former home, built right into lava bubbles – impressive, right? This spot is all about blending art and nature, with funky sculptures, wow-factor walkways, and plenty of cacti to marvel at. Next, we'll head to the Cueva de los Verdes, a natural wonder created by ancient lava flows, where you'll stroll through the stalactites and stalagmites of this underground world. From there, we'll continue to the Mirador del Rio, a viewpoint designed by Manrique himself.

After snapping up some epic photos of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago from up high, you'll stroll through the Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees – where a tradition of planting a palm for each newborn has made this village the greenest spot on the island. You'll love the charming white Canarian houses, vibrant Bougainvillea, and learning that Manrique lived and worked in Haria until his passing in 1992. After a fresh, locally sourced lunch in a cosy Canarian house, you'll wrap up this adventure at the quirky Red House in Arrieta, perched right by the sea.

Half-day guided volcano and wine tour in southern Lanzarote

Half-day guided volcano and wine tour in southern Lanzarote

Spend an afternoon in southern Lanzarote on this half-day guided tour, combining volcanic landscapes with local flavours. As your guide Carlos says, “southern Lanzarote's got a vibe all of its own, with lava cliffs, vineyards growing out of craters and sunsets that'll make you stop and stare.”You'll kick things off in the village of Yaiza, known for its traditional white buildings, palm-lined streets and quiet atmosphere. A stroll through the Plaza de los Remedios is the ideal introduction to this laidback, rural part of the island. Next, you'll take a look at the coastal scenery during a walk along Playa Montana Bermeja, where black volcanic sand meets the Atlantic Ocean. Then, swing by Bodega Stratus, one of the island's best-known wineries. You'll get a tour of the vineyard – which is next to Timanfaya National Park – and learn how vines grown in volcanic ash and have a tasting session with local cheese, a true taste of the island's volcanic terroir. As Carlos puts it, “the wines from Bodega Stratus are as bold as the landscape they come from.”Finally, you'll wrap up your tour at Volcan del Cuervo, a volcanic crater in the middle of La Geria – AKA wine country. It's one of Lanzarote's most accessible volcanic sites – you can walk right into the crater – and was born during the massive Timanfaya eruptions that began in 1730. You'll arrive just before sunset, the perfect time to take it all in as the sun sets across the lava fields.

Lanzarote landscapes tour with wine-tasting at a local bodega

Get ready to fill your camera roll with the beauty of northern Lanzarote. From the Cactus Garden in Guatiza and sugar cube-like villages to the lava coast and family-run bodega, every stop reveals another layer of life here. Expert local guide, Ana, says, "we take the afternoon at a relaxed pace, soaking up the views and taking time to appreciate the connection between the ancient volcanic land and what we're able to craft and produce from it."Your journey begins in Guatiza with a photo stop outside the iconic Cactus Garden, created by legendary local artist Cesar Manrique. From the sea of prickly green, you'll head to the turquoise of the Atlantic lapping against the black volcanic rock and white sands of Caletón Blanco. Ana, adds, “the contrasting landscapes will have you thinking you've travelled across countries, yet in just 20 minutes, you'll be in the Valley of a Thousand Palms, where arid stretches are replaced with wildflowers and green date palms.” You'll visit the valley's village of Haria, where you can drop into traditional craft shops or opt to visit the Cesar Manrique House Museum – just so you know, this is at your own cost. Then, at the family-run bodega in Ye, you'll get a true taste of Lanzarote. Artisanal cheeses and wines produced from the island's mineral-rich terrain are on your tasting menu as you hear more about how they're made. Your final stop tops off the day – literally. From Mirador de las Nieves, you'll get sweeping views of the jagged volcanic cliffs that make this part of the island so unmissable.

Romeria de los Dolores experience in Lanzarote with locals

Straw-hatted dancers and guitar-playing shepherds descend on the hamlet of Mancha Blanca every September for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. And if you're in Lanzarote for the ‘romeria Virgen de los Dolores', as this pilgrimage is known, it's a must-do. Cristina, one of our local guides, says, ‘It's a once-a-year event, so the islanders take it very seriously. They don their traditional costumes and celebrate with friends and family. There's singing, dancing and lots of wine drinking. I love it and also make the pilgrimage myself.'You'll be picked up in the afternoon and taken to Mancha Blanca for the festivities. Here, in this sleepy village near Timanfaya National Park, you'll have some time to explore its artisan workshops – you'll be able to see how they hand craft their wares during live demos – listen to some live music and sample local delicacies. Stalls are set up al-fresco style here, so you can wander around like you would at a traditional Spanish market. Top tip, Mancha Blanca is a great place to snag some souvenirs, too. Groups of string musicians, known as parrandas, play songs of devotion and praise to the virgin. As part of the festivities, many farmers and craftsmen set up stalls selling local products such as Malvasia wine, cheese, cactus jam and earthenware. The romeria is a great opportunity to mingle with the locals and try local specialities and contribute to the community.
